An Acai Bowl pairs best with Prosecco, an off-dry Riesling or a tart Rosé. Lighter wines, or wines with a touch of sweetness or fizz will keep you refreshed throughout your meal while also bringing out the unique flavours found in the bowl.

An Acai Bowl is this refreshing, sweet and tart bowl that consists of Acai Berries, granola, yogurt and other fresh fruits.  While Yogurt is often used as its base, some folks might incorporate a smoothie base as they might want to blend some baby spinach or some protein powder in with the yogurt.  Or they might skip the yogurt all together and use nut butters and fresh fruit as the base.

Given all the fruit, granola and yogurt, this is a high-calorie dish that people may often enjoy at breakfast or lunch.  In fact, famous musician Nick Cave has an Acai Bowl every day for the last year, which helps explain the sheer amount of energy he has in his 60s (as the man is constantly on tour promoting his latest album, or scoring a soundtrack for my next favourite movie)

As an Acai Bowl is often eaten at earlier or mid-day, I have focused on lighter alcohol beverages that won’t make you super sleepy or drunk.

Prosecco & Acai Bowl Pairing

Prosecco makes for a great pairing with an Acai Bowl, provided you have some company to help you finish off the bottle. Of course there are gadgets and contraptions that can help seal the bubbles in your open bottle of Prosecco, but I don’t know, call me old fashioned, but that just isn’t how a bottle of bubbly was meant to be enjoyed.  Pop once and celebrate the moment, which is something I’ve never said until today. (cut me some slack, the political landscape in 2025 in Canada has been causing me some grief)

Prosecco is Italian sparkling wine and it’s super inexpensive but also super high-quality stuff. The bubbles wash away any fats and carbs leaving your taste buds receptive for the next delicious spoonful of your Acai Bowl. Expect flavours of apple, almond, par, apricot, cream, honey, melon and tropical fruit, all which will go great with whatever you’ve tossed in your bowl.

Off-Dry Riesling & Acai Pairing

I write about Riesling a lot – as it’s versatile, and much like myself – out of style.  An off-dry Riesling (particularly one with a hint of effervesces) is amazing with an Acai Bowl, as the wine has a hint of sugar that compliments the sweetness of all the fruit and berries in your bowl. Meanwhile, you get all these amazing flavours of green apple, citrus, apricot, honey, peaches, nectarine and lime that are sublime with your Acai bowl.

This is a fresh and lively pairing that will invigorate you to take on the rest of your day! (provided you don’t keep topping up your wine glass with more Riesling, which I have been guilt of on more than one occasion).

Rosé & Acai Bowl Pairing

Any Rosé, particularly an off-dry Rosé will go great with an Acai bowl. Expect fruity flavours of cherry, raspberry and strawberry to swirl around in your mouth with any of the real fruits you put in your bowl. Meanwhile, a sassy little Rosé will help wash down the granola as well as scrub any yogurt off your tongue, helping you enjoy all the diverse flavours of your Acai bowl even more.

I have Rosé d’Anjoy and Pet-nat Rosé (which is sparkling) in the table below for my top picks, as they are known for their high quality and availability. But honestly, any Rosé should work, provided it is not a sugar bomb (you know, the stuff that is specifically made in a sweet-style to appeal to college students who are new to alcoholic beverages).
